From 1893 to the early 1900s, Karl Baedeker published a travel guidebook titled, “The United States, with an excursion into Mexico.” The handbook is full of interesting content and maps for those interested in traveling North America. The particular route that Baedeker suggests to Detroit originates in Buffalo, NY and goes on to Toledo, OH.
The map shows some really interesting historical points such as the Parke Davis facility creating pharmaceuticals nearby the Michigan Stove Works on the eastside. Belle Isle clearly deserves its own call out box as a critical location to visit if a tourist in Detroit. The street labeling always gets me, so unique and beautiful, but so difficult to read.
